March is Women's History Month

Mom's Picks:

Thomson*Gale Women's History Free Resources - This site offers a timeline of women's history dating from 4000 B.C. to the present, several unit study style activites about famous women, links, quizzes and more.  You can also download a printable calendar for the month of March with event dates relating to famous women in history or print out free bookmarks.

Annie's Women's History Month Page - Annie's page is a Christian based one and she offers several scriptures about women for your reference.  Links on the page will take you to information about Christian women in history, women in the Bible and online Bible studies about them, famous women authors, biographies of women of historical note, information about the Victorian era and several educational links.  Annie has collected links to some very charming sites that focus on the special and Godly role women play in the world.  (Note, some of the links are no longer active, but there are still sufficient resources to make this website worth visiting.)

National Women's History Project - The resource center at the NWHP site focuses on multicultural women's history and offers infromation resources and educational materials.  Specific topics include a biography center, information on the women's rights movement, great speeches, student contest submissions, links, specific resources for students, teachers and parents, and a history quiz.  A printable brochure contains both the history quiz and a replica of this year's theme poster.

Infoplease Women's History Month - This site offers a vast array of resources, however you probably shouldn't visit the site while your child is nearby.  Some of the topics are not ones that I would consider appropriate for my children.  I recommend the site nonetheless because it does provide you with many valuable resources from which to choose.  This site is useful, it just requires some discernment.  The resources are listed by topic area and the site provides a special list of "Especially For Kids" options.  You can select from several quizzes and crosswords, view images of famous women and statues comemorating their achievements, and study statistics about women.   The site also offers links to prize winning women, quotations by women, women who excelled in particular fields of study and much more.  Note- This is an advertiser supported site so you will see Google and other ads.  I was able to navigate the main page of site without authorizing the pop-ups.  But once I clicked through to a selected source, a motion ad did appear at the top of my screen.

Other Links:

Women's Suffrage in Ohio - This site offers a scrapbook of the history of women's suffrage in Ohio. Online exhibits include convention proceedings, political cartoons, letters from Susan B. Anthony, diary entries and much more.  The site allows you to quickly view the physical history of the women's suffrage movement.

Congressional Resolution - See how a "month" gets made by reading the Congressional resolution authorizing "Women's History Month."

Ladies Against Feminism Quotations - This page of the LAF website offers up various historical quotes regarding the role of women in our society.

Scholastic Honor Roll of Notable Women - Your child can nominate someone  for the list of history's most notable women!   You can read the nominations made by other students too.   Also on the site you'll find biographies  for the women who have already been placed on the Honor Roll.  This program is affiliated with the National Women's History Project.
